On Thursday 2 October Former Secretary General of the United Nation Dr Kofi Annan visited Lund University. Dr Annan was this years main speaker of this years Anna Lindh lecture.
To a full auditorium Dr Annan gave a lecture about life after retiring as Secretary General, and being mistaken for actor Morgan Freeman. However, the main focus of the lecture was on human rights and how important they are in international politics and that he during his time as Secretary General tried to make human rights one of the corner stones of the organizations work together with security and development. They are all interdependent and strengthening one reinforces the others according to Dr Annan. The base for international affairs should be the universal human rights and we have an obligation to defend them and also work to spread them to every corner of the world so that they finally become universal.
